| 1. Description |
PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 13.02.2024 with the objective of installing rooftop solar plants in 1 crore households across the country.
Under the scheme, residential households are provided access to clean and affordable energy through rooftop solar systems.
Excess electricity generated is exported back to the grid and adjusted in the consumer’s electricity bill through net metering by DISCOMs.

| 2. Nature of Assistance |
- Electricity generated from rooftop solar plants is provided free to consumers.
- Approximately 10 square meters of shadow-free rooftop area is required for installation of a 1 KW solar plant.
- A 1 KW rooftop solar plant generally generates 4–5 units of electricity per day.
- Installation cost ranges between ₹60,000 to ₹65,000 per KW.
- The rooftop solar plant has an estimated life span of 25 years.
- Consumers can recover their investment within 3–4 years through savings in electricity bills.

State Subsidy: ₹15,000 per KW
Total Benefit: ₹45,000 to ₹90,000

| 4. Eligibility Conditions |
- All residential households/RWAs having meter connections under LMV-1 category are eligible.
- Subsidy is applicable only for domestically manufactured solar modules approved under ALMM list issued by MNRE.

| 5. Bank Loan Facility |
Rooftop solar systems can be financed through bank loans at interest rates below 7% with affordable EMI options.
Applications for loans can be made through the PM Jan Samarth Portal.

| 6. Vendor/Implementation Support |
Registered vendors authorized by MNRE, Government of India are available for installation of rooftop solar plants under the scheme.
